Starting point for genealogy research

The collected information is based on Sjur Kjellson Bøyum and his wife Gjertrud Sjursdtr. Bøyum and backwards from them. From about 1900 to the present day, the starting point is their children Sjur, Knut, Ole, Unni, Ivar and Anna.

Back in time, the family was mostly located in western Norway until the late Viking Age. When the link to Harald Fairhair (the king who united Norway into one kingdom) was found, the path back was well documented back to around the year 400.

Sjur, who was the eldest, inherited the Gutu farm from his father Sjur. I know that there was some contact between my mother and Sjur's children when they were young, but this contact ceased when they got older. It has therefore been difficult to get an overview of that part of the family.

The brothers Knut and Ole emigrated together in 1908, Knut brought with him his wife Gudrund Alvida and his approximately 2-year-old daughter Gjertrud. Both lived for a time with relatives in Minnesota, but Knut moved on (to North or South Dakota) and died in a mining accident there. Ole's family stayed in Minnesota. His descendants still live here, but in later generations several have moved to other parts of the United States.

Her sister Unni, who after emigrating took the name June, emigrated one year after her brothers in 1909. It was long believed that June never married, but it later turned out that she was married but never had any children.

Ivar Bøyum, who is my grandfather, met my grandmother Mimmi and moved to Oslo. He had trained as a car mechanic and started his own car repair shop (Etterstadgaten Bilverksted) between the first and second world wars. During the second world war he was imprisoned by the German Gestapo and first sent to the Grini camp in Norway and later to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Germany. He died a few years after the war due to the strain the stay had put on him.

The last of the siblings, Anna, never married. She ran and owned a café in the center of Oslo, and as far as I understand, managed to build up some money. Anna never had a driver's license, but she did have a car (an Overland). My grandfather was driving her around on weekends.

ERRORS IN GENEALOGY DATA

If you find an error in the Bøyum book or in the family tree, please send an email and inform us of the error. There is always the possibility that the data received may have been misunderstood or that the basis for the finding is incorrect. If an error is found, send an email to: jan-ivar@boyum.priv.no with the title: "Family data error".

NEW BØYUM's

There are always new world citizens, so if you think it is important to document our family tree with them, it is greatly appreciated that you send an email to: jan-ivar@boyum.priv.no with the title "New Bøyum's". Include the name of the child, the year of birth, and parents name.

MISSING BØYUM's

There is always a possibility that information about people who should have been included in the family tree is missing. This will be corrected as soon as information about the person is received. Send an email to: jan-ivar@boyum.priv.no with the title: "Missing Boyum's". Include the name of the person, the year of birth, and parents name

THE BØYUM BOOK

The book about Boyum / Bøyum family history is not updated very often. The reason for this is that this is a relatively large job, and there is therefore a need for a lot of new information before it is reasonable to update. All information about new or missing Bøyum's that are reported will automatically be included in the book, but if anyone wants to share information about our ancestors or has other good Boyum / Bøyum stories, they can be sent by email to: jan-ivar@boyum.priv.no with the title "Boyum book" for consideration.
